Levantamento realizado pelo G1, site da rede globo, mostrou que em uma semana – de 21 a 27 de agosto – o Ceará registrou 128 assassinatos, quase uma morte violenta por hora. A estatística coloca o estado como o recordista – em números absolutos – entre todos os 27 estados da federação que figuram no estudo. Em todo o país, foram 1.195 pessoas mortas em 546 cidades – quase 10% do total de municípios brasileiros.
Como o Ceará, mais de 45 cidades registraram índice superior a 10 mortes a cada 100 mil habitantes – índice considerado extremamente alto se for levado em conta o período de apenas sete dias analisados (já que a taxa é usada como parâmetro anual). Para fazer o levantamento, o G1 CE acessou as estatísticas da Secretaria de Segurança Pública e Defesa Social (SSPDS).
Os números integram um levantamento nacional feito pelo G1, que é o ponto de partida de uma parceria com o Núcleo de Estudos da Violência (NEV) da USP e com o Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública. O projeto tem um nome: Monitor da Violência. Com uma série de iniciativas que envolvem reportagem e análise de dados, o projeto vai fazer o acompanhamento desses e de outros casos de violência no país.
