O limite de cinco reenvios expande para nível global uma medida que o WhatsApp colocou em prática na Índia em julho, depois da disseminação de rumores em mídias sociais que levaram a assassinatos e tentativas de linchamento.

O WhatsApp, que tem 1,5 bilhão de usuários e foi comprado pelo Facebook em 2014, está tentando encontrar formas de impedir o uso indevido do aplicativo, em meio a preocupações globais de que a plataforma está sendo usada para disseminar notícias falsas, fotos manipuladas, vídeos fora de contexto e boatos transmitidos por mensagens de áudio.
