A Independência do Brasil é o feriado em que se celebra a emancipação brasileira do reino de Portugal.
O Dia da Independência do Brasil se comemora no dia 7 de setembro de 1822, data que ficou conhecida pelo episódio do “Grito do Ipiranga”.
A Independência do Brasil deu os primeiros passos às margens do riacho Ipiranga, hoje atual cidade de São Paulo. O Príncipe Regente Dom Pedro ordenou aos soldados que o acompanhavam que jogassem fora os símbolos portugueses que levavam nos uniformes.
Em seguida, gritou “independência ou morte” e a partir desse momento, simbolicamente, o Brasil não era mais uma colônia de Portugal.

Logo após a Independência, o Brasil continuou a ser uma monarquia, forma de governo onde os poderes são exercidos por um rei ou Imperador.
A primeira nação que reconheceu a independência do Brasil foi os Estados Unidos. Portugal apenas admitiu a independência em 1825, após o pagamento de uma indenização de aproximadamente 2 milhões de libras.
Atualmente, no dia da Independência do Brasil as escolas promovem desfiles pelas ruas da cidade, enquanto os alunos cantam os hinos da Independência e do Brasil.
As forças militares brasileiras – marinha, exército e aeronáutica – também fazem apresentações especiais ao público em homenagem a esta data.
O desfile mais solene acontece em Brasília onde participa o presidente da República e seus convidados.
História da Independência Brasileira
Com as invasões napoleônicas na Europa, a família Real Portuguesa decidiu que seria mais seguro se mudar para o Brasil. Assim, em 1808, a Corte Real desembarcou em terras brasileiras. Em seguida, os portos brasileiros passaram a ser abertos para todas as nações do mundo. Este foi o primeiro grande passo para o desejo de independência do país.
Porém, existiam diversos problemas, como as divergências entre os portugueses e brasileiros, a escravidão, a luta por mais autonomia territorial, e etc.
No final de agosto de 1822, depois de se deslocar para São Paulo com o propósito de apaziguar uma rebelião contra José Bonifácio, D. Pedro resolveu romper os laços de união política com Portugal, mesmo com seu pai, o rei D. João VI, pedindo para que ele voltasse a Portugal imediatamente.
Com a emancipação, D. Pedro I foi coroado Imperador do Brasil.
