As autoridades levaram três anos para completar somente a pavimentação do local. A ponte em forma da letra “Y” vai reduzir o tempo de viagem entre Hong Kong e Zhuhai, cidade adjacente a Macau, de três horas a 30 minutos, aumentando a integração das cidades do Delta do Rio das Pérolas, de acordo com as autoridades chinesas. Além disso, a infraestrutura vai criar um novo espaço para o desenvolvimento da “Grande Baía” Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau, que inclui as duas Regiões Administrativas de Hong Kong e Macau e nove cidades da província de Guangdong (Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan e Zhuhai).
